Jenni & Drake {A Durham July 4th Weekend Wedding}

I was thrilled to get the call from Jenni that she was engaged and that she wanted me to capture her wedding day!  I had the honor of capturing her sister's wedding the year prior, so it was humbling to hear that she loved my work and how I work enough to hire me for her own wedding.  There's no greater compliment.

This wedding took place in Durham on a beautiful, classic, hot NC summer day during the 4th of July weekend.  Planning for this kind of weather in July, this couple was smart and broke up the day into two halves with an early ceremony at Duke Chapel, and an evening reception at The Cookery.  This break in between allowed the guests and wedding party (and photographer) time to relax, freshen up and even change before the reception.  Since everyone had time to recharge and cool off, the reception was wide open with energy and fun!  I highly recommend this strategy with couples getting married in south in the dead of the summer, if the logistics allow it.

Michelle & David {A Summertime Wilmington Wedding}

I've known Dave (David) a long time, and he's actually one of the reasons my wife and I are together today!  So when I heard that he was settling down with this beautiful lady, I was very excited for him, and even more excited that they asked me to capture this day for them!

The wedding day was a typical coastal Carolina summer day in Wilmington:  Sunshine, 92 degrees, and 1850% humidity.  But, when you live, work, and play in this part of the south, it's just how it is.  In the south, you don't sweat on your wedding day - you "glisten".   It was a picture-perfect day, full of fun, food, family, friends, and love.  From beautiful people to beautiful venues, this day was pretty easy for me to capture.

#Nautical Newlyweds: Alyse & Tyler {Downtown Raleigh Wedding}

Just as the hashtag implies, Alyse & Tyler are #NauticalNewlyweds!  This catchy wedding hashtag is appropriate and was themed well throughout their wedding.  Alyse and Tyler are both Dentists in the US Navy!  During the entire duration of the wedding planning, they were both deployed overseas (in separate undisclosed locations.)  However, we were still able to plan out the day and meet up for a great engagement session while they were in town, briefly.

They met while in Dental school at Tufts University, and from there, moved on to become officers in the Navy.  This impressive and accomplished couple has an energy and chemistry that is infectious and just makes you want to hang out with them!  This energy was shared by all their families and friends on their wedding day, and to say it was a fun day would be an understatement.

The day was accented with key themes and milestones from their lives from the centerpieces (actual ropes from the deck dept. of Alyse's Aircraft Carrier, the USS George H. W. Bush) to the giant toothbrush!  This was all tied together to reflect their fresh and modern styles by having the wedding at CAM Raleigh, with planning by When in White, food by Irregardless Cafe, and tunes by the Bunn DJ Company.

It was a comfortable day, and everything just seemed to fit and work.  Their families welcomed me in with open arms, and the day felt more like hanging out with friends than work.  This married couple is now stationed at US Naval Base Pearl Harbor for a few years for their extended honeymoon!  A hui hou kakaou!

Out of context, this would be a great photo for "Caption this photo!"
